The summer break I’m about to enjoy from work isn’t nearly as long as the one that members of congress will get over the holiday, but it will be enjoyable to be sure.
I wanted to take the opportunity afforded me by my last blog post for a couple of days to invite anyone who reads this to join many of us in the Childers Media Group family at a special softball game
Monday night July 3rd at Stadium Park in Delphos.
In conjunction with the Delphos Kiwanis club’s annual independence celebration, a group of local volunteers called “Beyond Expectations” will be hosting a softball game for children and adults with physical, developmental, or emotional difficulties from throughout our area at 6:00 P.M.
My fun 107.1 colleagues Rick Miller and Rick Burgei have joined me for years in providing a little entertainment and play-by-play style announcing for the participants who get a chance to experience the fun of playing in a softball game before an audience they might otherwise not experience.
Volunteer “buddies” pitch to the participants, help them hit and run the bases when necessary, and they get shirts and some food when the event is finished.
If you join us, I think you’ll be amazed as we are each year at how much the event means to the adults and children who play in it.
And how much the cheers and applause from the folks in the bleachers means to them.
There’s no charge for admission, and once the game is through you can enjoy some food and refreshments, place a just-for-fun wager during the Kiwanis club duck races, and hear music from Michigan’s “Your Generation”.
Hope to hear you there.
But if not, have a safe & happy July 4th holiday!
That’s the way I see it.
