One of the things I enjoy the most about my job is the work that i get to do helping to use the voice that is Fun 107.1 to promote activities that benefit the communities we serve.
Unlike many other radio organizations , we at Childers Media Group continue to devote a significant portion of our broadcast day promoting events hosted by community organizations, not-for-profit groups, schools, churches, and the like.
Back in the day, radio stations were required to devote a certain percentage of their weekly programming to such causes.
But many of those requirements have been reduced or eliminated.
This past weekend alone, thousands of dollars were raised through the 2017 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Delphos, and a benefit for Landeck area oral cancer patient Tim Trentman at the Delphos Recreation Center.
It was particularly exciting for me to notice how many younger people were involved in each of these undertakings.
I have long believed that people in this area may love to argue with each other, or have very strong opinions on a wide range of topics that they’re all-to-willing to express.
But when there is a need, they respond in a way that I think would be hard to match in any other part of our state or country.
I congratulate the volunteers who have embraced the giving spirit in our area.
I would also like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Tim Trentman, who sadly lost his battle with cancer on Sunday within hours of the conclusion of the event to raise funds to defray his medical expenses.
That’s the way I see it.
