After February weather returned to February norms on Saturday, I enjoyed some time in my home office listening to an Indians vs. Reds spring training game.
I know there are those who say the pre-season, or exhibition games as they used to call them, have no meaning and are an unnecessary throw-back to the olden days.
But I’d submit they have as much meaning and importance as the vast majority of the second half of the NBA season.
In any event, listening to the boys of summer prepare for another season gives me hope that the warmer days will soon outnumber the cold ones.
And it’ll soon be back to time in the pool with a cold beverage in hand.
Yes I know major league baseball players are paid a bunch to play a kids game, and some have attitudes that would have resulted in a spanking if they grew up when I did.
But the game I still think of as America’s pastime will suck me in once more just like it has since I was old enough to sneak a transistor radio into class in the 4th grade.
That’s the way I see it.
