We sent a man to the moon 48 years ago, but we can’t figure out why people are willing to die to get high.
I bring this up because there’s been a new flurry of drug overdose deaths in our area.
I feel it should have more of us clamoring for the resources to figure out what it is in the rat-poison like chemicals too many of our neighbors are snorting or injecting into themselves.
What is it about a persons’ mental state or psychological make up that allows them to become prey to chemicals they have to know will have an addictive power that’s completely or at least nearly impossible to escape?
It’s clear we don’t have enough treatment centers or the expertise to tackle this growing epidemic of deadly drug abuse .
If it’s money that we need, I’d suggest ear-marking the new tax revenue our state will generate from legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes as a revenue source.
It seems fitting to me that it’s utilized in that manner, but of course I know our politicians have a long list of other ways to spend that newfound income.
That’s the way I see it.
