A lot of local High School basketball fans are still smarting from losses suffered by the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays and the Perry Commodores in the semifinals last Thursday night on the division IV state tournament in Columbus.
The best comment I’ve heard about the performances of Allen county’s state tournament representatives is that they were “outmatched and outplayed”, but were not “out classed” by the teams that ended their dreams of a state title prematurely.
The best advice I heard was a quote in the Lima News from Perry Coach Matt Tabler, who told his players “don’t be sad it’s over…be glad it happened.”
That’s great advice for all of us who’ve fallen just short in any of a host of life’s challenges.
The Delphos St John and Perry players could not have been better representatives of our area, or better examples of the importance of “team” that applies in almost anything we attempt.
While the losses will sting for a while, the teams and their coaches were blessed to experience something other teams can only dream about accomplishing.
That is something they’ll proudly carry with them for the rest of their lives.
That’s the way I see it.
