The vast majority of area High School Seniors who haven’t already graduated will have done so by the time the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend is finished.
It can be kind of a sad time for many parents who’ll sit through graduation ceremonies with their fingers crossed hoping with all of their hearts that the the training and upbringing they’ve given their youngsters will provide enough guidance to keep them on a positive course during adulthood.
Of course the young graduates can’t wait to “get out”, and any time you spend telling them that the easiest years of their lives are coming to an end will be disregarded…just like we did.
I hope at least some of the young men and women who are about to become graduates will hear at least some of the truth about the world they are entering from those who’ll speak before they get their diplomas.
The great big world out there can be a very hard and unforgiving place!
There are few if any participation trophies!
They’ll almost never get a day off because of bad weather!
Knowing how to dress and how to speak will have a major impact on their ability to find a job!
The world is not waiting with breathless anticipation for their great new ideas!
Any respect they get will have to be earned!
There is no such thing as a loan that doesn’t have to be repaid!
Their parents who may be among the dumbest folks they know today, will seem a whole lot smarter in the years to come!
And there will likely be times when they’ll wish they could return to the High School setting they can’t wait to leave!
That’s the way I see it.
