Those of us who expected a raft of “covid babies” would be born as a direct result of the pandemic and the time people had to spend in their homes with little else to do last year, were badly mistaken. In fact, The Centers for disease control says the birth rate in America has declined to it’s lowest level since 1Benefits979. Further the CDC says the number of Americans who die each day now exceeds the number of daily births in the U/.S. That’s not good news for those of us who’ve been hoping that younger workers would pick up the slack to insure that benefits we are entitled to in retirement are still available. Add to that the growing number of Americans who seem to be very willing to except widely available government benefits to stay out of the work force and it all spells what sounds like real trouble in the years to come. If you are 20, 30 or 40 years old this may not seem like a big deal to you, but your opinions may well change as the number of years you still have to work become fewer and fewer. That’s the way I see it.
