BUCKEYE FANS should be LSU fans tonight…….
Ohio State football fans could be preparing for Buckeyes game watch parties. Area bar owners could be stocking up for a big night hosting Buckeyes football fans tonight. Instead, because the Buckeyes lost out in the opening round of the 4-team tournament, tonight’s National College football championship game will pit unbeaten Tigers from LSU and Clemson against each other in New Orleans. I don’t have a rooting interest in the outcome of the game of any kind except to say that LSU quarterback and Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow seems to be a nice guy who’s done a great deal to call attention to the poverty that exists in and near his home town of Athens Ohio. Even prior to his expected first-choice pick in the upcoming NFL draft, Burrow has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a charity in Athens County. My beef with the game doesn’t involve who will or won’t be playing in it, but rather with the game time. People smarter than me, and there are lots of them, seem to like to schedule the College football title game, the NCAA college basketball championships and NBA finals too late for most fans in the eastern U.s who have to get up for work Tuesday morning to enjoy. I do suspect there are HR managers who aren’t too disappointed that the Buckeyes aren’t playing tonight. If they were, absenteeism would probably be even higher than normal tomorrow. That’s the way I see it.
