Defacing, changing everything, what is RIGHT and when is enough enough?
The trend we’ve been seeing of late of damaging, defacing or destroying statues and other historical artifacts that’s been occurring as an outgrowth of protests over the death in Minneapolis police custody of George Floyd, now threatens a street in Liverpool England that was the title of one of the Beatles most iconic songs, Penny lane. Penny lane is in danger of being renamed because of the streets possible ties to slavery. Activists in Great Britain are upset because Penny Lane is thought to have been named in honor of James Penny, a 17th century slave merchant. Some feel if a connection between the street and James Penny can be found it should get a new name immediately. Stories like this leave some people like me asking What’s next. That’s the way I see it.
