The situation that’s unfolding in Afghanistan these days seems strangely reminiscent to another many of our listeners may remember more than 4 decades ago. The Biden administrations much publicized decision to pull all remaining troops from that war torn nation within weeks has empowered and emboldened the Taliban. The terror group, in a matter of weeks, has taken over large portions of the country and now threatens the Afghan capital. In 1,975 the withdrawal of the last ground troops from South Vietnam was followed quickly by a swift communist take over of the entire country. If you were alive back then, you may recall the scenes of refugees clinging to U.S. aircraft leaving Saigon hoping to flea the communist onslaught. It appears that history may be repeating itself as it so often does. Without American forces to train support and assist them the Afghan military seems unable to defend the nation against a terror group we battled on their behalf for 20 years. That’s the way I see it.
