Does NO one WANT to work?????????
The sign up at an area fast food restaurant indicating the business would be closed indefinitely because of a lack of employees is a startling indication of an American economy that’s apparently just too good. For those of us who’ve seen recessions with double-digit jobless rates in our area in the past, the problems area employers are having finding people to work are hard to imagine. Help wanted signs it seems are up almost everywhere and employers are trying all kinds of incentives including paid bonuses for just showing up for work for an entire week on time. For those of us who were raised in families where work was a valued part of life and not just a means for getting the newest gadget or time off, the number of jobs that are going unfilled makes us scratch our heads. It’s hard not to sound like the old guy I swore I’d never become but I have to wonder if it’s gotten too easy to have the government support us, or if the cars electronic devices and other things we give our kids diminishes the value of working to get the things they want. I’ll leave it to the experts to determine the causes and solutions for the issue, but in the mean time there’s a lot of work that isn’t getting done. That’s the way I see it.
