A story that’s unfolding in Cuba would probably receive more attention here in the U.S. if it weren’t for the complete and total control the communist government in the island nation has over the people who live there. What we do know is that demonstrations have been occurring in Cuba involving people who want even some of the freedoms we so often take for granted. What little social media contact the people of Cuba have had with the outside world has been cut off, but we do know that a number of the protestors have been arrested, and others have just turned up missing. A current U.S. trade embargo makes it virtually impossible for Americans to travel to Cuba, but I’m thinking those travel restrictions should be completely eliminated. Maybe if more Americans traveled there, and saw the poverty, state control and lack of freedoms people in communist controlled countries like Cuba live under, they might be a lot more appreciate of the freedoms we enjoy here in America. That’s the way I see it.
