If your a parent or grand parent , it’s OK to admit that Hiccups are cute when babies have them. That is of course when they don’t stop, or are followed by a burp which leads to having to change clothes covered with baby formula. It turns out that Hiccups may actually be a very healthy thing for babies. Researchers at University College in London have discovered that they seem to be a way that infant brains learn how to regulate and control muscles that help them breathe. When we reach adulthood, hiccups seem to happen most often when we’re preparing for a speech or some other public appearance. Those same British researchers say they don’t seem to do anything for us older people except annoy us. An I love Lucy episode when Lucy had them was among the funniest in that series and if you spend time on line you can find all kinds of creative remedies for Hiccups, some of them that are just downright dangerous. If you suffer from the Hiccups it may be best as the old saying goes to just suck it up, but don’t hold your breath too long. That’s the way I see it.
