A pair of decisions handed down this week by the U. S. Supreme court is I think good news for Americans who agree with the men who wrote it, that the U.S. constitution is the law of the land In good times and in bad, In times of war, national emergency And pandemic too. In one decision the high court declared an order from the governor of New York banning religious services during the pandemic unconstitutional. In another, the court ordered a case involving an order banning religious gatherings in California sent back to a lower court in light of it’s New York state decision. To his credit, Ohio Governor Mike Dewine has steered pretty clear of any mention of religious gatherings, understanding that the constitution bars government from making rules that impact religious observances. To their credit, clergy leader in our area have done their best to do everything they can to protect people who worship with them from exposure to the Coronavirus. They’ve done so not because of any government orders, but rather because they care for the people who exercise their constitutional right to gather together to worship. That’s the way I see it..
