Horse Play and Stupid Social Media……
An incident that started with what was described as childish horse-play in a Celina city school building last week points out I think what’s the worst thing about the social media world in which we live. A teacher stopped a group of students from playing a gun game using candy canes and reported the incident to a school resource officer. For some reason that sparked a social media post from someone described by Celina police as an irresponsible parent that prompted numerous phone calls to school officials and police and caused some parents to keep their kids out of school for a day. There seems to be a disturbing trend among some people who populate social media to want to be the first to post something without concern about whether what their posting is accurate or who might be effected by the messages or photos they post. Most of the people who work in what’s referred to today as the traditional media still follow the old rule that information should be determined to be accurate before we broadcast or write it. Sadly there seems to be a growing number of social media users who are intent on getting a moment of notoriety without concern for how they get it. That’s the way I see it.
