There is nothing that will take your mind off the coronavirus mess we’re living in, at least for a few minutes, like a child’s birthday party and that’s what we got to enjoy last night, as we celebrated the 4th birthday of our youngest grand son. A meal consisting of some of his favorites including corn on the cob and cake was followed by present opening, giving my bride and me our latest chance to spoil a grand son. What Ashton said he wanted more than anything else for his birthday was a vacuum cleaner. That’s right a real vacuum cleaner that you could plug in to the wall, not a toy. What were we grand parents to do, but buy him a real working Dirt Devil. When he opened the box containing the vacuum cleaner you would have thought he hit the lottery. Ashton immediately set about sweeping everything in sight. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever heard someone so excited about getting a gift that we adults associate with the drudgery of house work. Hearing that excitement was to say the least very enjoyable. It was a reminder to me that sometimes it’s the smallest things that bring the greatest joy. That’s important to remember especially in times like these. That’s the way I see it.
