New polls released this week indicate a majority of Americans still favor the Covid19 restrictions in place since March in hopes of controlling the spread of the Corona Virus , but Governors like Ohio’s Mike DeWine are finding themselves facing increasing pressure from civil libertarians, some state lawmakers and business owners to move more rapidly to reopen the state for business completely. Concerns raised after the governor announced on Monday that facial masks would be a requirement for customers visiting retail businesses, resulted in a revision a day later indicating that facial covering was a recommendation not a requirement. Small business owners are complaining that Walmart and other large retailers which sell food and other products have been allowed to remain open while smaller businesses which sell products like clothing jewelry and hair care items that can be purchased at the big box stores have been ordered to remain closed because they are considered non essential. Some restaurant and bar owners have raised concerns that they won’t be able to make ends meet if strict occupancy limits are placed on them when they are allowed to reopen. Whether you think the covid 19 restrictions were necessary or have been in place too long I’ll be happy to say again that I’m glad I am not standing in the shoes of the people who will have to decide when and how long restrictions are further eased or come to an end. That’s the way I see it.
