It’s a fight I’ll bet at least some Cleveland Indians baseball team fans hope their team will lose. It’s a battle over the trade mark for the name Guardians. Cleveland’s major league baseball team wants to start using that name at the end of this season. What team officials may not have known is that a roller derby team that also calls Cleveland home has ben using the Guardians name for several years. A battle is sure to be forthcoming over the Guardians name trade mark. The baseball Indians filed a trade mark request in a small nation off the coast of Africa on April 8th, then made a similar filing with the U. S. Patent And Trademark Office on July 23rd. The roller derby Guardians filed a request for trademark protection with U.S. officials 4 days later. It’s not known how the battle will play out or how long it will take to be resolved, but there are I suspect a number of Indians fans who hope the roller derby Guardians will win, and the Cleveland baseball team will have to pick some other name. That’s the way I see it.
