I’m a fan of old westerns. Ever since I was a kid TV episodes of Gun Smoke, Death Valley Days and the like have always intrigued me. The idea that people from out east would brave extremely harsh weather conditions, perils posed by rivers and deserts and Native Americans who wanted them to stay away is kind of unfathomable. Our ancestors blazed trails through hundreds of miles of uncharted territory without a single GPS. These days as a people we seem to lose our minds if we forget our cell phone or have to walk somewhere instead of driving. To say we’ve become a soft people is I think an understatement. That’s the way I see it.
