Rick Burgei here filling in for Bob on his blog while he is taking a MUCH DESERVED vacation, I won’t pretend that I might be as GOOD as Bob is when doing his blog but I will do my best. With so many historic items being torn down in the past year maybe some of these are noteworthy yet in my opinion many are not. I am a Miami Dolphins fan BUT attended Chicago Bear vs Miami games at Soldier Field when Shula and Ditka clashed, when Marino and McMahon and the Fridge battled. The Famous FOG, snow and then sunny day at Soldier field. So many AMAZING memories and games bigger than most Super Bowl games at Soldier Field. I get why the Bears would like to build a new and improved stadium. Currently they only hold 61,500 fans the least in all of the NFL, the stadium was built in 1924 and the Bear’s started play in it in 1971 and maybe the cost to renovate it could be astronomical, which I am not sure BUT a big part of me as well as the majority of Bear fans would rather they expand the stadium for more seats if possible and update what they need to with keeping the outside looks the same. Let’s face it when anyone see’s a picture of Soldier Field you KNOW it’s the home of the Chicago Bears. To me tearing it down would be like tearing down Jim’s Restaurant in Delphos which has been a structure with additions since 1953 and putting in a car wash. I hope that the Bear’s ownership really looks at all possibilities and listens to the fans before making any decision, at least that’s the way I see it.
