Add the name of soon-to-be- former New York state governor Andrew Cuomo to the long and growing list of American politicians and celebrities who’ve learned that the bigger you are the harder you fall. Cuomo gave in to pressure from national and state leaders within his own Democratic party yesterday, announcing that he will resign from office before the end of this month. The move comes just over a year after Cuomo was nationally honored for the work it appeared he had done to deal with the pandemic in his state. First to plague him were allegations that his decision to order the transfer of hospital patients with Covid19 in to the state’s nursing homes lead to the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of elderly people. Even more damning were allegations that surfaced earlier this year of sexual misconduct that were leveled by at least 11 current or former members of Cuomo’s staff. Andrew Cuomo was once one of the most powerful politicians in our country. Soon, at least temporarily, he’ll be looking for a job. Cuomo is the latest American politician or celebrity to learn that many of the same people who tell you how great you are, will be the first to abandon and condemn you when the cause or the timing is right. That’s the way I see it.
