This is the eve of what should be the start of the annual Canal Days celebration in Delphos, but a toast to the city event tomorrow night and festival activities that would have taken place this Friday through Sunday like so many other festivals and events this year won’t be happening because of Covid19 related rules and regulations.  It’s a big loss not just to the Canal Days committee which over the years has donated thousands of dollars to local organizations, but also to other groups and businesses which have participated in the celebration.  Many people I know  have looked forward to being involved in Canal Days every September as did thousands of other people who enjoyed the celebration.  Cancellation of Canal Days is a big blow to the community and the community spirit it’s helped to foster for the past 6 decades. Volunteers who had hoped to  put the event on had no real choice but to pull the plug on it this year. I just hope they won’t be faced with a similar possibility in 2021. That’s the way I see it.
