I suspect a move to drop the name “Indians” from Cleveland’s major league baseball team that’s expected to be announced this week was just a matter of time. The team which dropped it’s historic Chief Wahoo logo a couple of years ago has been under pressure since I was young to drop the name Indians, because some find it offensive to the native Americans who once called Ohio home. There’s no word on whether the Indians name will just be dropped or will be changed to something else, but there are a couple of things I think I know. First, you won’t see many if any tears shed by the national sports media folks when the announcement is made. They’ve proved they are strong proponents of the “Cancel Culture” that we live in. And, Second, If the people who own the Cleveland baseball team expect a sudden influx of new fans, now happy that the Indians name is a piece of baseball history, they will be sadly mistaken. That’s the way I see it.
