The recent increase in the number of mass shooting incidents around our country has sparked calls on governments at the state, local and federal level to “do something” about it. Some common sense measures have been enacted, and others are pending but at least one I’ve read about this week strikes me as ridiculous. The city council in Las Vegas this week passed legislation making it a crime to carry a toy or replica gun in the city’s popular Fremont East District. The ban is similar to one already in effect on the Las Vegas strip. The proposal might make more sense to me if Nevada law didn’t allow any adult to carry a real gun unconcealed. To paraphrase, toy guns aren’t allowed, but real ones are. Pardon me but from several hundred miles away that strikes me as silly. That’s the way I see it.
