In case you’re not excited about the major party candidates who’ll be running for president in an election about 90 days from now, it appears you will have a new option. Rapper Kanye West has filed petitions to run as a candidate for the white house in Ohio. West filed to run as an independent candidate in time to meet this weeks deadline for doing so. West was a vocal supporter of president Trump in 2,016 but now says the 2 no longer see eye to eye. To call West’s white house bid a long shot is an understatement but you don’t have to look too far back in history to find other entertainment celebrities who’ve successfully made the move. There was former actor Ronald Reagan in 1,980 and 1,984, and who can forget the unlikely election of former TV reality show celebrity Donald Trump in the most recent election. A Georgia peanut farmer named Jimmy Carder also beat the odds to win the presidency in 1,976. In a world that’s as upside down as this one seems to be, West must figure he could become the latest unlikely figure to be elected president. That’s the way I see it.
