I hope a newly announced Facebook campaign will be able to do what new laws and massive law enforcement attention have been unable to do.
That’s curb the death and personal destruction that’s resulted from our nations’ Opioid crisis.
The social media giant has launched an effort called Stop Opioid Silence, with the goal of breaking the stigma and silence that comes with addiction to prescription drugs legal, and illegal.
Their contention, and I suspect they are at least a little on target, is that one reason addicts don’t seek the treatment help they need is that they are worried that coming forward will cause them to lose their families or their jobs. Opioids are killing 130 Americans every day. That’s enough death to wipe out a town the size of the city of Delphos in 53 days.
It’s obvious that more needs to be done and I hope the Facebook folks are successful.
That’s the way I see it.
