I was amused to read this morning that former college and pro-basketball star turned broadcast analyst Bill Walton is making a name for himself as a spokesperson for those who are sure we are killing our planet.
Walton has been scheduled to make a keynote address at a Green Sports promotional program in late June that is slated to bring together sports team executives from around the country.
His speech will be based on the topic “live green or die”.
That title strikes me as at least a bit of an unnecessary exageration.
Yes I know that there are those who subscribe to the theory that man’s actions from what we drive and how we heat our homes to the methane generated by the cattle many of us enjoy eating are causing a change in the climate of Mother Earth.
I don’t have a strong opinion on a topic I’ll leave to the scientists, but I do know that using phrases like “live green or die” are no more likely than phrases like “if you don’t stop that you’ll go blind” to result in any significant change in my lifestyle.
That’s the way I see it.
