Struggling…
At a time when many Americans are struggling to make ends meat as they face higher prices for everything they buy and everything they want to do, owners of major league baseball teams and the union that represents the men to play baseball professionally are proving I think just how tone deaf they are about the world the rest of us are living in. Negotiators for the owners and players are far apart on the terms of a new contract agreement. So far apart that owners yesterday announced a lock out of all players. It’s part of a power struggle that’s been in the offing for months. Those of us who can only imagine what it would be like to make the money baseball players make for playing a kids game may find it difficult to believe that those involved in a sport who’s popularity has taken a hit from other sports would find much support for their threat that a lack of agreement could jeopardize the 2,022 season. Many of us proved to ourselves during the pandemic that we could live without professional sports, and unless negotiators do come up with a deal, we may have to prove it again next year. That’s the way I see it.
