In the aftermath of the most deadly mass shooting incident in modern American history, questions that begin with the word “why” are outnumbered only by questions that begin with “how”.
We will probably never know why Stephen Paddock decided to open fire on people attending a country music concert featuring Jason Aldean on the strip in Las Vegas last night from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort.
Cowardly, as all mass shooters are, Paddock shot himself to death rather than face justice for his unthinkable act.
What we may find out some day is how this 64 year old Nevada resident was able to sneak an arsenal of weapons and ammunition in to the area he fired from at a time when security at places like the resort can make you a target if you look sideways at someone.
It seems to me that someone had to have seen something in the minutes or hours prior to the attack, and either chose not to speak out, or just looked the other way.
There aren’t words that have been invented to describe the senseless nature of such attacks or the deranged nature of people who would carry out such carnage.
We are left simply to pray for the families of the victims, and to pray for the survivors.
As I’ve written before, there’s plenty of evidence that the devil is alive and well.
That’s the way I see it.
