Did you watch the Grammy Awards telecast Sunday night? If you did, you were among fewer than 9 million people in a country of 333 million who took the time to watch the show. CBS says ratings for the Grammy’s fell 53 percent from last year. That follows a 60 percent decline in viewership for the recent Golden Globes awards telecast. There’s no way to know, but I’ll bet the biggest ratings declines have occurred right here in middle America. Many of the people I know, who still watch network television regularly have grown tired of high-paid entertainers using the platforms they’re given during the awards shows to tell us what’s wrong with us, and to speak out for causes they support. It seems to me that the record tv and movie industries are so fragmented these days that many of the songs, tv shows and movies up for awards aren’t familiar at all to many people here in fly-over country so many don’t care who wins.. That’s the way I see it.
