I’m not a big fan of musicals in general.
As a matter of fact, I’ve complained to my bride in the past that the thing about musicals that bugs me is that there’s too much singing in them.
However, a story I read this morning about plans for a Broadway musical about the life of Michael Jackson, actually sounds like something I might enjoy when it hits the stage some time in 2020.
I can’t think of a more interesting entertainment character from the 20th century than the person they used to call “The King Of Pop”.
Some of Michael’s music was, in my opinion, pretty awful.
But some of it, to me is pretty darn good.
“She’s out of my life” is, I think, one of the prettiest love songs of the era.
“Beat it” introduced thousands of white kids, like our then 3 year old son Eric, to the “Moon Walk”.
No one other than Michael could have made Vincent Price part of a top 40 smash, as was the case with “Thriller”.
Thereof course was the fiery commercial recording episode, his scrapes with the authorities, and his many weird antics, that might make a Broadway play about him something to take in sometime.
However, I could be wrong too.
That’s the way I see it.
