We are OUT OF THE RED……………
Reaction to the Coronavirus yielded what I think is one of the biggest area surprises of this pandemic season yesterday when Allen county wasn’t elevated in the State Health Department’s weekly corona virus risk rankings from Red level 3 to Purple level 4. Like most people I think, I thought that the purple designation was a forgone conclusion but it turns out that state health officials who analyze virus treatment stats in 7 categories took Allen county off it’s watch list. Many people I spoke with this week figured Allen county would be facing new restrictions on business activity but there was no such announcement from the Governor’s news conference on Thursday with one notable exception. Mike Dewine will ask the State Liquor Commission this morning to order a new state wide early bar and restaurant closing time of 11:00 P.M. with last call at 10:00 P.M. If that request is approved barring any court challenges the order would become effective tonight. In a corona virus world that’s driven by statistics and politics the early closing order would be a fairly safe one politically. It would negatively effect bar and restaurant owners financially to be sure, but young people who are most likely to want to be in a bar after 11:00 P.M. are the least likely adults to vote in any election. That’s the way I see it.
