Wildcats vs Bluejays….Let’s have fun
At least as big as the buzz that’s existed surrounding the installation of a new turf playing surface on the new Champions Field, in Stadium Park in Delphos this summer, is the anticipation fans of the city’s high school football teams are feeling as the football teams from Delphos Jefferson and Delphos St. Johns prepare to meet for their first regular season game on the field this Saturday night. Installation of the new turf surface came about thanks to a large number of donations from both inside and outside the community. At a time when we could all use something to be excited about, the game will give us a chance to show off our community spirit and our support for our city’s 2 school systems. A spirit of cooperation has been in evidence over the past several weeks as the athletic booster groups from St. Johns and Jefferson got together to sponsor a big ticket raffle with 50 prizes. Proceeds will be divided evenly between the athletic booster groups. I’m told the response from ticket buyers has been tremendous. The football game this Saturday night will provide us with a chance to cheer on players from our local schools. I hope we will all remember that they are just kids, playing a game we adults could only dream of playing. That’s the way I see it.
