We may want to add the name of Tampa Florida Mayor Jane Castor to what would be a long list of politicians who’ve spoken out about an idea that sounded like a great one, that at second glance may turn out not to be such a good one. Her statement last week that she was considering proposing changing the name of her city Tampa to “tompa” even before Tom Brady lead the home town Buccaneers to a 31 to 9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55 last night, did garner a lot of positive media publicity. But I wonder if she first considered what would be the considerable cost of making such a name change. After all, the names on all city buildings, on city letter head, and on hundreds of city street signs would have to be changed and that cost would not be a small one And I think it’s likely there are some Tampa City councilman who wouldn’t support the expenditure no matter how much they love their Super bowl champs. That’s the way I see it.
